[Spoiler] Character Profile (#1079) + Writer Comments

[PREVIOUS LIFE]

Number: #1079 (real name unknown)

Occupation: Astronomer

Likes: Sweets (a sweet tooth, loves cakes and candy), puzzles, and dad joke

Dislikes: Tofu, dishonesty, drama, and cold weather

Age of death: 31 years old (NOTE: in the path of reincarnation, they assumed the age of their prime)

Cause of death: Drowned in an icy lake during his night walk in the countryside.

Brief history:

He was an astronomer from 18th-century France who spent his days reading old texts and thinking about the meaning of life and the universe. At night, he went to his observatory, where he watched the stars and dreamed of joining them. He wasn't good-looking, and people often found his appearance scary. This made him shy and timid. His personality made it hard for him to socialize, but he had a few close friends who liked his dry wit and subtle humor. Sadly, he never found true love because his passion for the stars consumed him. He died at the age of 31 while stargazing on a winter night when he slipped into an icy lake. This incident made him hate cold weather

[NEXT LIFE]

Name: Orion Reed

Age : 27

World setting: Future, in a colony spaceship

Occupation: Head Chief Engineer

Likes: Sleep for half a day whenever he’s done with his long shifts, sweets, going picnics, and trying new and interesting food.

Dislikes: Cold weather, judgmental people, and bland food.

Brief history:

Orion showed great interest and quickly learned about astronomy from a young age. His parents, both astronauts, supported his dream of becoming an astronaut. However, when he turned 15, he developed a fondness for engineering and strayed slightly from his initial goal. When it was time to choose a major for college, he contemplated a lot and had a hard time deciding. So, he ended up taking a gap year and spent his time backpacking and traveling around the world. During his adventure, he met many people, experienced joy, and learned how to handle difficult situations in unfamiliar places. That year matured his personality, and he returned with a firm decision about his life's goal. He chose to major in Aeronautical Engineering after one of his new friends from his travels suggested, "If you can't choose one, why not take both?" It proved to be the best choice he ever made; he excelled in the major and graduated faster than expected with one of the highest SAT scores in the university's history. On his graduation day, several major companies offered him jobs. He ultimately decided to join Artemis Enterprise. It didn't take long for him to rise in rank, and he eventually became the Head Chief Engineer for one of Artemis Enterprise's biggest colony ships.

In terms of personality, Orion has always been a quiet and shy boy. His intimidating red eyes often led people to misunderstand him as mean or scary. Only those willing to befriend him discovered his true personality—sweet and gentle. He wears glasses due to a medical condition called ocular albinism, which affects his eyes' color and vision. Despite his eye condition, Orion is a good-looking man but has never seriously dated anyone. He had one ex-girlfriend from high school and hasn't dated anyone since. His friends teased him, suggesting he might still be in love with his ex, but he denied it. He confided in his close friend about strange dreams he had since childhood, involving a magical place and a journey with a beautiful person, along with many promises they made together. Although he couldn't see the person's face, he knew she was the one he wanted to meet someday. When he laid eyes on MC, his heart burst with joy, as he inexplicably knew she was the one from his dreams.

[Writer's Comments]

Hey, it's Yui, the writer! Sorry for the delay in posting this. I'm not great at writing postmortems and tend to spend a lot of time thinking about what to write. =_= I’m honestly not as great a writer as Altila says...

To keep it short, I base my characters on real people I’ve met and spent time with. Then I blend those traits with the story I have in mind, considering how they'd react to situations, the choices they'd make, and how they communicate.

1079 is quite special to me because he's inspired by someone very dear in my life. Although that person would totally disagree that his personality matches 1079’s. Of course, it’s not 100% the same because I just took inspiration, not a direct copy.

Initially, I wanted 1079 to be an INTP (MBTI), but as an INFP myself, my personality somehow mixed in, making him more INFP than INTP, lol. Altila, who is an INTP, actually pointed this out (though MBTI can change over time depending on situations). Honestly, we can't box anyone into a single personality type because everyone is unique.

The choice of number 1079 is just a playful reference to a birthday date. It was easier not to overthink it. But naming him "Orion Reed" involved more thought. His love for astronomy and his reincarnated parents’ background influenced the choice (plus, the surname was because of his red hair, haha).

I think Orion is quite good-looking with his tan skin, red hair, and eyes. I wanted him to have an intimidating yet sweet look, and Altila did a great job drawing him. (sharing his early sketch)

I only wrote for 1079 and the prologue (where you meet Moira). I was supposed to write everything, but as a background artist, I also wanted to create original backgrounds for the game. So, I asked Altila to co-write, and she ended up taking on two of the three characters, haha. I don’t see myself as the main writer since Tila wrote her characters the way she wanted. I just checked for grammar and sentence flow, occasionally suggesting lines. So, there’s no main writer here—we purely co-wrote. It worked well since none of the LIs are connected or communicating with each other.

One of my biggest writing challenges is that I tend to write too much. This gave Altila a headache because she suggested 1k-1.5k words per character, but I ended up with over 6k words for Orion (LOL!). I trimmed it down to almost 5k words, and she had to add more stories for 1001 and 3333. (Sorry T_T).

Overall, I enjoyed writing 1079, and I’m glad he got some love. When a character is loved, the writer feels loved too ^^.

I love how the CToF story is unfolding and am tempted to write mini after-meeting stories, but it's probably best not to.

That's all about #1079, Orion Reed! Thank you for playing CToF.
